I am Flavio Jordao Wate, a medical doctor for 25 years and experienced in Public Health. My areas of interest are Project management of health programs, and health systems. I do have in-depth understanding and knowledge of health sector in Mozambique, institutions' organization, strategic policies, development perspectives and political structure. I'm experienced on health programs and projects management, including design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation. Throughout my career, I had opportunity to supervise and manage multidisciplinary teams, support professional development by identifying strengths and weaknesses within health teams, providing feedback, and designing improvement plans to address professional needs. During the past 11 years I have been working at the Health Office of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), in Maputo as Malaria Project Management Specialist, providing technical assistance in prevention, treatment, data collection, analysis, performance and monitoring of malaria interventions. Also, I am involved on development of programmatic policies, clinical guidelines, Social and Behavior Change (SBC) materials and monitoring and evaluation (M&E) tools for Malaria. Before USAID, I worked one year for WHO as Tuberculosis consultant, two years for Population Service International (PSI) as Malaria project manager and 13 years at the Ministry of Health, in a different level (district, Provincial and central level) and in different geographic regions (South, Central and North) of Mozambique. In all this position I had a manager and supervisory role as well as provision of technical assistance to the health providers on health promotion, Prevention and health care. I am fluent in English and Portuguese and do have strong oral and written communication skills to engage people and donors (WHO, Global Fund, Bill and Melinda Gates, Clinton Foundation and relevant Mozambican Government Institutions). I do have good communication, supervisory and mentoring skills, ability to work under pressure and independently with minimal supervision and easily adapt to teamwork within a multi-ethnic environment, as well as to work collaboratively and courteously with a diverse population of public and private health professionals.
